SLBC Project to be Completed by December 2027 – Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy

Hyderabad, Sept 9 – Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Captain N. Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project will be completed by December 2027, ensuring irrigation for over 4 lakh acres and safe drinking water for rural communities. He said this would also reduce the burden of monthly electricity charges incurred through pumping, once the canal system becomes fully operational.

The Minister chaired a review meeting with public representatives and senior officials at the Jalasaudha headquarters in Hyderabad, focusing on pending irrigation projects in the erstwhile Nalgonda district. He emphasized that a clear roadmap has been prepared for completing ongoing works, accelerating land acquisition, forest clearances, and rehabilitation measures. He assured that stalled reservoirs and canal projects would be given top priority and discussed in the upcoming cabinet meeting on September 15.

Highlighting progress, he noted that once Tunnel-1, Pendalipaka Reservoir, and Tunnel-2 are completed, water will flow through a 25 km main canal into the high-level canal system, benefiting agriculture in Nalgonda and neighboring districts. Alongside SLBC, the government is pushing forward the Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme, designed to irrigate 3.61 lakh acres through multiple reservoirs, and has sanctioned 11 new lift irrigation projects in the region.

The Minister added that projects like Udayasamudram, Singarajpalli, Ershigudem, Chintapalli, and Baswapur reservoirs are in advanced stages, with some already supplying water to tens of thousands of acres. Once completed, these projects will transform the region into a green, irrigated zone, strengthening agriculture, ensuring safe drinking water, and boosting long-term rural development.
