Telangana Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, a 1991-batch IAS officer of the Telangana cadre, is scheduled to retire on 31 March 2026 following a seven-month service extension. He took charge as Chief Secretary on 30 April 2025, at a time when the state administration was navigating important developmental and financial priorities. The extension, approved in late 2025, was intended to ensure continuity and stability at the highest level of the bureaucracy during a crucial phase for the state.
Recognized for his strong command over public finance and governance, Rao previously served as Special Chief Secretary for Finance and played a key role in preparing 14 state budgets, including two vote-on-account budgets. An alumnus of IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi with an MBA in Investments, he combines technical and financial expertise with a data-driven approach to administration. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he has held several senior roles, including Director General of the Centre for Good Governance and District Collector in Adilabad and Guntur. His retirement will mark the conclusion of a service record defined by fiscal discipline, institutional reforms, and administrative steadiness.
