OpenAI to Explore AI University Collaboration with Andhra Pradesh Government

Andhra Pradesh IT, Electronics and Education Minister Nara Lokesh met OpenAI CTO Srinivas Narayanan in San Francisco to discuss strategic collaboration in Artificial Intelligence development. Lokesh highlighted the state’s vision of ensuring “One AI-powered citizen per household” and requested OpenAI’s support in building AI skill development programs for students. He proposed offering free ChatGPT access to school and undergraduate students in the initial phase to expand AI literacy across the state.

Minister Lokesh also invited OpenAI to collaborate on establishing a dedicated AI University in Andhra Pradesh, and to consider the state—which is rapidly becoming a data center hub—as a potential location for OpenAI’s future data center infrastructure. Responding to the proposal, Srinivas Narayanan said OpenAI is already working with global tech leaders like Infosys and TCS on enterprise AI solutions and would further review Andhra Pradesh’s proposals with a high-level delegation. OpenAI currently serves users in over 180 countries, and ChatGPT parent company holds a market valuation of nearly $90 billion, generating $3.5 billion in revenue last year through enterprise solutions, API services, and ChatGPT Plus subscriptions.
