At the Guru Pooja Utsav in Vijayawada, Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh emphasized that whenever people talk about government education in India, they should look at Andhra Pradesh as the model. Joined by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Lokesh felicitated 175 outstanding teachers and professors from across the state on the occasion of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s birth anniversary. He highlighted that teachers are the real architects of society and credited his personal journey—from being a backbencher in school to studying at Stanford—to the guidance of his teachers.
Lokesh underlined the success of reforms like the LEAP (Learning, Education, and Academic Progress) Model, implementation of “No Bag Saturdays,” introduction of curriculum changes, and the establishment of over 9,600 model primary schools. He recalled how, under Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership, some government schools displayed “No Admission” boards for the first time, reflecting rising enrollment driven by teacher commitment. He urged educators to strictly implement the LEAP model and focus on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) to help Andhra Pradesh rank among the top three states in learning outcomes.
The minister contrasted today’s progress with the challenges of the past, recalling how teachers were once demoralized and even deployed for non-academic duties under the previous government. He assured transparency in teacher transfers, recruitment, and promotions, noting that 13 DSC recruitments under Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership appointed 1.8 lakh teachers. He also highlighted curriculum revamps in intermediate and higher education, better nutritional support in mid-day meals, and efforts to improve Andhra University’s NIRF rankings.
Lokesh concluded by appealing to teachers to stand united in building the Andhra Model of Education, making it a global benchmark. He stressed that education has the power to lift children from poverty and transform society, and that teachers remain the most critical force behind this mission.
